4 Dangerous Myths About Supplements

Do you take dietary supplements on a regular basis? If so, you are not alone since more than half of the American population takes supplements to improve their health.

You see, as a nation we spend an absurd amount of money on supplements, to the tune of billions per year.

Unfortunately, many of these supplements are sold with deceptive advertising. Even worse, many of these supplements are eventually pulled from the market because of health issues.

Thus, without further delay, here are common falsehoods the supplement companies don’t want you to know:

1. Supplements are safe because they are “natural”: Just because something is natural does NOT make it safe. After all, there are many things in nature that will kill you if eaten. And keep in mind that many supplements contain ultra-concentrated levels of natural nutrients which ironically, makes then quite unnatural.

2. They are backed by valid studies: Most of the sexy charts and graphs you see on the labels and advertisements are made up. You see, the bulk of the data is performed by biased entities that are directly related to the supplement companies themselves.

3. Your health takes front seat: Well, I wish this was true, but when you consider that billions in sales are involved… You see, with so much money on the table, companies can lose sight of what is right and what is wrong. Ephedra, for instance, is a perfect example of things gone wrong.

4. The placebo effect doesn’t exist: The placebo effect is real, very real. So just because someone you know swears by a supplement, doesn’t mean that it’s safe. Simply taking a sugar pill can make 40% of a group feel an improvement. Now 40% is a huge number. This makes sense, however, since our minds have such great control over our bodies.

The bottom line here is to stay away from all the advertising hype. Instead, stick to what has been proven by clinical trials as being effective. Anything less and you could be putting your health at risk!
